On Thursday the Afghanistan's raised their flag in Marjah, a stronghold of the Taliban. The U.S has been fighting the Taliban in our largest offensive attack every. This was called Operation Moshtarak. The flag was raised over land where this attack had been fought and hundred of people attended. There were military and government officials there to watch the flag be raised too. They are trying to get many citizens to turn toward the government and start trusting them again.
This effects the world because Afghanistan has been a very dangerous place recently. There are many extremists there such as the Taliban. The U.S has been trying to stop and capture such extremists in Afghanistan for many years and this is a huge step. The U.S won a big offensive war and raised a flag in one of the main regions of the Taliban. This is a step towards ending the war in Afghanistan.

I agree with you that this is of major importance. I think that maybe you should explain more about what it means to "raise your flag". Maybe mention other instances when the untied states has done this and what it did for that country.
